Met up with an old friend last night.
⠀
The last time we saw each other, it was 15 years ago.
⠀
That’s right.
⠀
In fact, he wasn’t too sure if it was me when he first reached out.
⠀
“Are you Jesus?” he asked.
⠀
It was my gaming nickname when I was 15.
⠀
I laughed because I knew this person must have been from my childhood.
⠀
When we connected again, he told me that he couldn’t really recognize me.
⠀
He said I used to be quiet, introverted and not really fond of talking to people.
⠀
But today, I’m a completely different person.
⠀
“What caused the transformation?” he asked.
⠀
I told him that practicing martial arts and studying Mind led me to discovering the importance of Advancing our Minds.
⠀
You see, the number one thing I learnt from martial arts was that most practitioners trap themselves inside the endless cycle of accumulating techniques.
⠀
But to me, techniques are but doors to discovery and advancement of self.
⠀
Does doing 100 punches a day make one a better person?
⠀
Does doing 100 kicks a day make the lives of people better?
⠀
When we train, are we cultivating our inner selves or actualizing an Image?
⠀
Training with a purpose, not for an Image.

Train to bring out the best in You.

For many years I would infrequently ask my teacher

For many years I would infrequently ask my teacher, “What is the purpose of The Crane’s Wing Technique? 🦢✋🏻” He never gave me a proper explanation. He would only smile and reply “The Crane cannot take off when the base is soft.” A decade later, I completely forgot about the move. Until yesterday, when I was asleep on the train🚆, an old man who was sitting beside me lost his footing when he tried to stand up. He fell on me, and I woke up to see that I was supporting him. When I looked at the position of my hands, I was surprised — it was the Crane’s Wing Technique. Isn’t it funny how when you hold on to something, you let go of it and when you let go of something, you hold on to it? 🤯
